Foundations of Skyscrapers

Skyscrapers are typically constructed on solid rock especially if these are fairly high. If the solid rock is somewhat at a depth below the ground, then piles ( pier and piles foundations) are made to reach the solid rock and the skyscraper is constructed on top of the piles cap.

The first skyscraper that was made was in Chicago, USA in 1885 / 86 as a ten story building of the Home Life Insurance company.
